How Do We Solve the Global Economic Crisis?

Postby jackwellman on Mon Nov 10, 2008 3:16 pm

It appears that money is running out in the world. More and more people are getting less and less, while a small minority is getting richer and richer. Worldwide, the number of billionaires has skyrockted while poverty has done the same. The "have-nots" are nearly 600-1 to the "have-a-lots". What can we do about this? Does this have any solution or are we headed to a catacylsmic financial disaster in the global economy?

How is this impacting you, the readers? In what ways have you had to cut back, ie, Christmas shopping, vacations...are there hard choices to make, like pay for your prescription or gas bill this month?

Well, I haven't seen much of a change in my financial aspect. The financial "disaster" that I hear over the news feels to me in the same respect that World War 2 felt to people of 1940's America. The financial disaster is, "Over there", I don't have much influence over it, and it doesn't have much influence over me.

An extra dollar at the pump? If I couldn't afford that then I probably would have downsized to a smaller house by now. I have figured that I could live quite comfortably even if gasoline prices were to triple or quadruple.

The global financial crisis is proving to be almost insurmountable just in the same way climate matters appear to get out of hand. The most venal environmental advocacy might as well be the push toward nuclear power by several European countries, and now some in Asia. It’s quite puzzling how any scientist can recommend nuclear power generation as a substitute for coal or diesel powered energy. Although there is much agreement on the need to diversify power generation by focussing on clean energy it cannot be overemphasised that inherent dangers lie ahead if we make the mistake of jumping into potentially disastrous sources because we think too much investment is required before we can profitably harness solar, wind and tidal power in the range of megawatts [MW]. This is the http://ziarra.wordpress.com and we owe it to future generations to tread carefully as we ponder alternatives to the current energy status quo.

You may want to read the Rolling Stone article.

I think he is deserving of a Pulitzer for this article.

Great posts (the last two in particular). What are we leaving our children and grandchildren? Sad to see us bankrupt the future to pay for the present.
