The global financial crisis is proving to be almost insurmountable just in the same way climate matters appear to get out of hand. The most venal environmental advocacy might as well be the push toward nuclear power by several European countries, and now some in Asia. It’s quite puzzling how any scientist can recommend nuclear power generation as a substitute for coal or diesel powered energy. Although there is much agreement on the need to diversify power generation by focussing on clean energy it cannot be overemphasised that inherent dangers lie ahead if we make the mistake of jumping into potentially disastrous sources because we think too much investment is required before we can profitably harness solar, wind and tidal power in the range of megawatts [MW].
