I see many get off real lucky for not being sober when driving and it makes me almost rage. I lost a good friend this way and it was well before it became a law that was somewhat cracked down on. I have seen one person that I can remember have three DUI's and still driving - why, no freaking clue but something needs done, bad.

I have also lost a friend this way, and something must be done about those irresponsible people who get off so easily. Usually when people make that decision to drive after drinking, they don't think about how they might get in an accident, and sometimes that just shows the level of maturity of the person. I have no idea how to stop that. It seems as if people are growing more and more careless these days. My dad never drives after he drinks, even if it's just a beer or a glass of wine.

I think many people just get a slap on the wrist and you know if it was their family or friend laying dead they would be complaining about it. I actually did MADD support calls one year and on July 4th I had a guy on the phone tell me that I was calling at the wrong time "Don't you know I am drinking and getting loaded right now", then he hung up on me.

I finished that days work and thought I hope I never meet him on the road as I'm sure seeing he could not handle a 4 minute conversation about updates he wouldn't be the right frame of person to not get behind the wheel. I wish more was done about this, the statistics are insane when you look at how many deaths there are each year.

I live in South Africa, and I believe that the majority of road accidents are in fact caused as a result of drunk driving. Looking at it at any perspective, driving under the influence of alcohol is never satisfactory.

Personally I think that it's not taken seriously enough. Beside that point, I also have a different side to my argument that some drivers are under the influence but not chaotically. To me, I would get into a car where I driver has had 2 glasses of wine. Some people are just inclined to think that alcohol will get you into an accident. It is not true.

I agree with most of you that the penalty is too light. Particularly since I see offenders who have 4 or 5 or more convictions and eventually are still alllowed to drive. This to me is outrageous.
