Legalizing Marijuana

legalizing marijuana How harmful is marijuana? Should marijuana have complete restrictions or is there some room for discussion?

Marijuana was used as a legal medicine in the early 1900s but was prohibited in the 1940's and has remained an illegal substance since that time.

There are many that argue that the use of marijuana should be legalized not only for any potential medical purposes, but treated the same way alcohol and tobacco is in the US.

Part of the argument centers around the affect this might have on criminal activity, the potential for abuse of other illegal drugs.

Some liken the debate to prohibition and hold out hope that this 'prohibition' will be lifted. The feeling is that should marijuana become a legal substance there would be a sensible use of the drug. Others have difficulty believing that the subculture of drugs will be diminished simply because one controlled substance is legalized.
