Civil Liberties

Civil Liberties The horror of 9/11 has put a crimp in civil liberties. While some seem willing to forfeit personal freedoms for the sake of Homeland Security others are not so quick to give the idea their support.

Proponents of civil liberties point to a downturn in personal trust and an increase in the numbers of rules and regulations that diminish the perception of civil liberties.

This may be most notable in airport check in lines where a full compliment of security checks are imposed on anyone traveling by air. Many feel the extent of the security checks is opposition to civil liberty.

Most do not deny the need for improved vigilance and most will also recognize the number of foiled terror plots using techniques that are common in Homeland Security, but they also decry the loss of their own personal civil liberties at the hands of someone from outside the country.
